Achebe was the Marianna Fisher University professor and professor of Africana studies at Brown University from 2009 until his passing. Every year, he would convene the Achebe Colloquium on Africa, a conference that gathered scholars, experts, and government officials from various parts of the world for an intense two-day discussion on African matters. Last year’s colloquium was held in December and was titled “Governance, Security, and Peace in Africa.” I can only imagine how much the Brown community misses him. Here is a beautiful video tribute put out by the university on Achebe’s impact on students and faculty. By the way, he looks great in this photo. That’s him at his residence in Rhode Island.
