Would you pay 42 dollars (shipping fees included) for a novel? What if the author doodles stunning little patterns on the cover and includes a secret message?

If you’re a true fan, I bet you would.

Nnedi Okorafor took to Facebook a little while back and shared pictures of doodled copies of Lagoon, her most recent work.

People freaked out and kept asking if they could get a one. And yesterday, I saw on Facebook that she is now offering doodled copies of the novel for 42 dollars.

Okorafor’s doodled novels gives her US fans who can’t wait till July a chance to get the novel. But it is also just an ingenious way to sell books, and, most importantly, to connect with fans.

Okorafor is taking the significance we place on an author-signed copy to another level. These copies are personalized not just with the author’s signature but also with unique art work, done by hand—not to mention the inclusion of a secret message.

The price is a bit steep, but for die-hard fans of Okorafor and her work, it shouldn’t be too much a price to pay for a one-of-a-kind copy.
