Philani-pavement-bookworm

Remember Philani Dladla? A documentary about his pavement bookshop went viral a while back. Dladla sold books on the street of Johannesburg, but unlike your regular bookseller, Dladla would only sell books he’d read and would then price them according to how well he enjoyed them.

It’s been two years since his story inspired many of us to rekindle our appreciation for books and reading. Dladla has since launched the Pavement Bookworm Foundation, through which he makes books available to less privileged children.

You can now read his amazing life experiences in a book he published last year. Titled The Pavement Bookworm, the book tells Dladla’s story—from his struggle with drug addiction to finding peace and survival in books.

Congrats to Dladla! What a beautiful story.
