Chibundu Onuzo’s new book has been announced. As usual, we have all the scoop.

In 2012, Chibundu Onuzo signed a 2-book deal with top UK-based publisher, Faber and Faber. Ever since the first book, titled Spider King’s Daughter, came out in 2012, we’ve been holding our breath, waiting for Onuzo to do a reprise of her storytelling magic in a new novel.

Two days ago, she told her fans on Instagram that the long-awaited novel, titled Welcome to Lagos, had been set for a January 2017 release, in addition to revealing the cover.

The stunning cover was designed by artist and illustrator Bill Bragg, a high profile artist who has done cover designs for the Folio Society.

Congrats to Onuzo. We are truly happy for her and can’t wait to read Welcome to Lagos!

Enjoy this little synopsis of the book, and let us know what you think of the cover.

Deep in the Niger Delta, officer Chike Ameobi deserts the army and sets out on the road to Lagos. He is soon joined by a wayward private, a naive militant, a vulnerable young woman and a runaway middle-class wife. The shared goals of this unlikely group: freedom and new life.

As they strive to find their places in the city, they become embroiled in a political scandal. Ahmed Bakare, editor of the failing Nigerian Journal, is determined to report the truth. Yet government minister Chief Sandayo will do anything to maintain his position. Trapped between the two, they are forced to make a life-changing decision.

Full of shimmering detail, Welcome to Lagos is a stunning portrayal of an extraordinary city, and of seven lives that intersect in a breathless story of courage and survival.
