Congrats to Nigerian novelist Obinna Udenwe! He recently tied the knot with the love of his life, Nwamaka Okpo, an accountant based in Abakaliki.

A series of ceremonies marked the joyous occasion. The traditional marriage ceremony followed the Izzi traditional marriage rites and took place on the 23rd of November 2016 at the Okpo residence.

After the traditional rites, the couple further sealed their union with a beautiful church ceremony at the Bishop’s Court, Pastoral Centre, Abakaliki. The event attracted socialites and political dignitaries. Udenwe is a well-known novelist, so fellow writers came out to support him. Prof. Akachi Ezeigbo, Iquo DianaAbasi Eke, Osemome Ndebbio, Chioma Iwunze-Ibiam, and Richard Inya were some of the writers among the 900 wedding guests.

Obinna tells us that he had the best time of his life. “I got married to a friend I have known and loved for 10 years,” he gushes during an email conversation.

He also felt truly honored to share such a beautiful moment with his family:

“The ceremonies, both the traditional marriage rites and the wedding was a huge honor for me — for they created an opportunity for our both families, many friends and well wishers to witness the consolidation of the friendship that has existed between the two families for many years, and to celebrate with us in a way that is rich and satisfying.”

It was indeed a joyous occasion—lots of smiles and embraces and dancing. The bride and groom looked gorgeous. The bride looked stunning in a princess-style wedding gown and beautifully-styled traditional pieces.

We are beyond delighted for the happy couple. Udenwe has been a part of the Brittle Paper family for many years.  He is well-known and loved in the African literary community. It’s an honor to celebrate his wedding with you all.

We wish the couple all the joy and happiness in the world.
