Chimamanda Adichie has been honoured with Bard College’s Mary McCarthy Award, not only for her “astonishing novels” and “formative nonfiction” but also for her “charismatic public presence.”

Here is a photo of her letter.

The Mary McCarthy Award is remarkable for its focus on not only the recipient’s work but also on their brand. Which is why, considering past recipients, Adichie is joining great company: Margaret Atwood, Zadie Smith, Susan Sontag.

The letter shows the Ethiopian novelist Dinaw Mengestu—the only other African novelist alongside Adichie to have received a MacArthur Genius Grant—-to be Faculty Sponsor.

According to Beauld.com, a lifestyle blog, the stunning green “leather stripped jumpsuit with wide legged bottoms and flare sleeves” she wore to the ceremony was created by Zohi Taglit, one of the brands she patronizes as part of her Wear Nigerian Project.

Here are a couple more photos from her Facebook.

Congratulations to Adichie!
