Bernardine Evaristo has a new short story, “Star of the Season,” in Vogue UK’s March issue. Set in a world of high-concept couture, it focuses on a cybernetic socialite who decides the future of fashion. This issue of the magazine, its “Spring Fashion Issue,” has the Russian supermodel Irina Shayk on the cover.

The Booker Prize winner’s venture into fantasy should be no surprise to followers of her boundary-pushing fiction in which time, history, and ideas are moved around. Her 2009 novel Blonde Roots, for example, is set in an alternative history world in which Africans enslave Europeans.

The short story is not online at the time of writing.
