Nigerian-American writer Zito Madu will release his memoir in spring 2024 titled The Minotaur at Calla Lanza.

The memoir will be published by Belt, a worker-owned and women-led independent book publishing company based in Cleveland, Ohio. The rights were sold by Madu’s agent Jennifer Thompson to Anne Trubek at Belt.

According to Publisher’s Marketplace, Madu turns to nonfiction to reflect on solitude, identity, and “the need to see the world from its margins to understand its cruelty.” Some of the particularly memorable moments he includes in his memoir are walking through the streets of Venice during the pandemic, selling ice cream in Detroit with his father, playing soccer, and visiting family in Nigeria.

Zito Madu is a Nigerian-born and Detroit-bred writer living in Brooklyn. He was a former staff writer at the sports website SBnation of Vox Media and contributor at GQ and Plough Quarterly. He has done freelance writing for the New Republic and Washington Post, along with advertising work ranging from brand strategy and creative campaigns, to social media management and consulting on strategy. Madu was also a writer for two seasons of The Champions digital show and host for MLS Black History Month panel.

Congrats to Madu on his upcoming memoir!
