South African academic and celebrated feminist writer Pumla Dineo Gqola recently celebrated her 50th birthday. She shared photos on Instagram, with the caption: “Dancing into 50. Thankful for love, health and a good life.”

The birthday celebration took place at Olivewood Private Estate & Golf Club in East London, South Africa. The venue was decorated with birthday balloons and sparkling lights.

Gqola looked stunning in a silver dress in the 1950s flapper style with fringe detailing on the skirt and silver glitter all over. The dress was designed by Sibo Next Level Fashion and makeup by Zona Davani.

Ggola is the author of five books and numerous essays. Her most recent work is Female Fear Factory: Gender and Patriarchy under Racial Capitalism, published by Cassava Republic Press, which continues her ground breaking studies on gender-based violence.

Congrats to Gqola! We wish her joy and every good thing this coming year.

Here are a few photos from the event.
