Ghana-based independent published Tampered Press has announced the new Tampered Press Manuscript Prize, an award for a book-length work of literary fiction written in English by published and unpublished Ghanaian writers. The submissions period runs from March 1, 2025 to April 5, 2025.

The winner of The Tampered Press Manuscript Prize receives ₵20000 and simultaneous publication in Ghana by Tampered Press and in Nigeria by Masobe Books.

The prize celebrates boundary-pushing works of fiction that are innovative in style and form, and interested in the vicissitudes of being Ghanaian.

The judges for the prize are: the internationally acclaimed Nigerian author and architect Yewande Omotoso, celebrated for her poignant storytelling in works such as The Woman Next Door and An Unusual Grief, and Ayesha Harruna Attah, an esteemed Ghanaian author whose novels, including The Hundred Wells of Salaga and The Deep Blue Between, beautifully explore African histories, identities, and familial bonds.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Open to writers of Ghanaian nationality who currently reside in Ghana.
  • Submissions must be unpublished.
  • Entries must be primarily in English, though manuscripts that creatively incorporate Ghanaian languages are encouraged.
  • Manuscripts must be between (40,000 and 60,000 words).

Applications are open March 1, 2025 and close April 5, 2025. Keep an eye on their submissions page for more information.
