SUNY Press has announced the upcoming publication of Prieta is Dreaming, a new collection of works by the legendary Chicana writer, scholar, and activist, Gloria Anzaldúa, set for release in November 2025.

SUNY Press is also the publisher of This Bridge Called My Back, a seminal anthology co-edited by Anzaldúa and Cherríe Moraga, which has been a foundational text in women of color feminist and queer theory. In the announcement post, SUNY Press expressed that they are “humbly thrilled to share this exciting news.”

Anzaldúa, best known for her groundbreaking work Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza, was a pioneer in exploring the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and spirituality, with a particular focus on the experiences of Chicanas and other marginalized groups. Her work is celebrated for its blending of personal narrative, philosophy, and poetry.

Prieta is Dreaming, the new collection, includes nineteen linked stories, fourteen of which have never been published before. The stories follow Anzaldúa’s signature blending of reality, storytelling, and autobiography.

Anzaldúa’s challenge to binary Western thinking, invoked by the image of the borderland, has had an immeasurable influence on writers and thinkers from around the world, like Nigerian-American journalist Itoro Bassey who, in an essay for Lit Hub, credits Anzaldúa with helping navigate her own voice and identity in writing.

This new collection promises to be an important contribution to Anzaldúa’s legacy, allowing both academics and lovers of fiction more insight into the ideas and stories of one of the most influential thinkers of our time.
