Wayétu Moore and Namwali Serpell are among the authors whose works have been chosen as finalists for the 2020 National Book Critics Circle Awards.
The list of finalists was released on January 22, 2021. The annual awards are divided into six categories: autobiography, biography, criticism, fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.
Moore’s The Dragons, the Giant, the Women: A Memoir, published in June 2020 by Graywolf Press, is a finalist for the autobiography category. Serpell’s Stranger Faces, published in October 2020 by Transit Books, is a finalist for the criticism category.
The awards ceremony will be held on March 25 and NBCC Awards ceremony and will be livestreamed on wildboundlive.com. The event, free and open to the public, will also confer the Ivan Sandrof Lifetime Achievement Award to Feminist Press and the Nona Balakian Citation for Excellence in Reviewing to New Republic critic Jo Livingstone.
