British actor Idris Elba is set to release a series of children’s books. The actor, who is also a musician and DJ, signed multiple book deals with British publishing house HarperCollins, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“In the major UK/US co-publication deal, world rights were acquired by Ann-Janine Murtagh, Executive Publisher, HCCB UK, and Suzanne Murphy, President and Publisher, HCCB US, from Crystal Mahey-Morgan at OWN IT! Entertainment Ltd.”
The deal includes a range of children’s books (from picture books to fiction) that Elba had co-written with his writing partner Robin Charteris.
Born in London in 1972 to a Sierra Leonean father and a Ghanaian mother, Idris Elba ventured into an acting in his mid-twenties. He has since appeared in over fifty feature films including a film adaptation of Nigerian author Uzodinma Iweala’s Beasts of No Nation, where his supporting role as a brutal commander of an African guerrilla force received global acclaim.
Regarding the acquisition, Elba said; “I feel privileged to have the opportunity to bring stories inspired by my daughter to life with my incredible partner Robyn Charteris, and the powerhouse team at HarperCollins.”
The books will be launched in 2022.
