British-Ghanaian author Caleb Azumah Nelson has a new novel on the way titled Small Worlds.
The Bookseller reports that Isabel Wall, editorial director at Viking UK, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to the new novel following an exclusive submission from Caleb’s agent. The US rights were acquired by Kate Raissian at Grove Atlantic.
This novel comes at the heels of Nelson’s acclaimed debut Open Water, a sensitive and nuanced take on race and identity through the eyes of two young Black British artists falling in and out of love in South-east London. Among its many recognitions, the book has been named a finalist for the Waterstones Book of the Year Award and recently the Costa Book Prize for First Novel.
Small Worlds will see Nelson returning yet again to South-East London, following the protagonist Stephen over the course of three summers “exploring ideas of faith and belonging, fathers and sons, friendship and first love.”
The novel will be published in May 2023.

Congratulations to Caleb Azumah Nelson.
