The BBC just revealed a sneak peek into Booker Prize-winning author Bernardine Evaristor’s Mr Loverman TV series and we are absolutely obsessed with the stills from the show. Based on Evaristo’s 2013 novel of the same name, the 8-part drama series will air later this year on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
Mr Loverman explores Britain’s older Caribbean community and is a story about family, queer love, and being true to oneself. 74-year-old Barrington Jedidiah Walker was born and raised in Antigua but now lives in Hackney, London. Leading a double life, Barrington is a husband, father, and grandfather, but also secretly gay and in love with his childhood friend Morris. Barrington wants to divorce his wife Carmel and live with Morris, but will he manage to break away?
Mr Loverman was filmed in and around London and also in Antigua. The stills from the show announced by the BBC reveal a stunning look into the cast, outfits, and locations that the show was shot at. We cannot wait to binge watch as soon as the series comes out later this year!

Along with James, the other celebrities joining the cast of the show include three-time Olivier Award winner Sharon D Clarke playing Barrington’s wife Carmel Walker and Ariyon Bakare starring as Barrington’s best friend and soulmate Morris De La Roux.
Tamara Lawrance and Sharlene Whyte are in the roles of Barrington and Carmel’s daughters, Maxine and Donna, respectively. Tahj Miles is playing as Daniel, Donna’s son and Carmel and Barrington’s grandson, and Keenan Munn-Francis stars as a young Barrington opposite Gabin Kongolo as a young Morris. Meanwhile, Lauren Akosia is joining the cast as a young Carmel, known as Carmelita.
