Cameroonian academic Achille Mbembe, Ghanaian literary critic Ato Quayson, and others attended at the 2024 Holberg Week in Bergen and Oslo in Norway.  The Holberg Week 2024 took place from June 4–7 and celebrated outstanding research in the humanities, social sciences, law and theology.

The annual Holberg Week took place in the beginning of June as a celebration of the Holberg Prize Laureate, the Nils Klim Prize Laureate, and the Holberg School Programme finalists. The Holberg Week included a number of events that features the Laureates as well as other prominent guests from Norway and abroad.

The 2024 Holberg Prize was awarded to Professor Achille Mbembe, while the Nils Klim Prize was awarded to Professor Siddharth Sareen.

The Holberg Symposium this year was titled “Democracy as a Community of Life” and took place on Tuesday, June 4 at the University Aula in Bergen. The 2024 Holberg Laureate Achille Mbembe introduced the topic, followed by presentations by invited guests Ato Quayson, Nasrin Olla, and Paul Gilroy, a panel discussion moderated by Bjørn Enge Bertelsen, and in the end an open Q&A session.

Some other events featured during the week included a masterclass “Thoughts on the Planetary” hosted by Mbembe, a lecture on “The Earthly Community” by Mbembe, an award ceremony, and more!
