Ghanaian American cardiologist Shirlene Obuobi and bestselling author of On Rotation is back with another romance novel titled Between Friends & Lovers. But what really caught our attention is how Obuobi has been introducing the lead characters in the novel on Instagram.

The novel came out on July 30th and is essentially a blend of friendship, self-discovery, and romance. The book’s description teases it as a “swoon-worthy story of love and friendship in the age of social media—where what you see might not be all you get.” If you’re familiar with trending reads on BookTok and Bookstagram, you’ll know this book is set to be a hit.

Obuobi’s Instagram character introductions have been especially engaging. She posted illustrations of each main character, paired with descriptions, TV and movie inspirations, and even a playlist representing them. It’s a creative and immersive way to bring her characters to life before you dive into the book.

Jo is relatable to anyone that is on social media! Jo wants her followers to think that she is confident, but she has a lot of things she needs to overcome. Whether that’s guarding her emotions or dealing with her past, she is a reminder that social media doesn’t show everything.
