British actor, author, and screenwriter Yrsa Daley-Ward received an honorary doctorate from Lancaster University!

Daley-Ward, best known for her debut book, Bone, and her live poetry performances, is also a co-writer on Beyoncé’s Emmy-winning musical film and visual album Black Is King. She is the author of The How, the autobiographical novel, The Terrible, which won the PEN/Ackerley Prize and her forthcoming fiction debut The Catch.

Daley-Ward reflected on her journey towards this moment in an Instagram post, in which she shared:

I’m happy I did things my way without much to guide me. I’m so glad my intuition did the talking. Why am I telling you this? Well, decades later—(in 2022)—a message appears in my inbox—a message from the Vice Chancellor of the University that I considered all those years ago. An invitation to accepting the award of an Honorary Doctorate – outstanding contribution to literature and diversity through fiction, poetry and prose!
