The Future Worlds Prize For Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of Colour is now open for submissions until January 26th, 2025. Submissions can be from a wide range of science fiction and fantasy genres, from horror to dystopian to romance-tasy.

The Future Worlds Prize For Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of Colour was founded in 2019 and is now funded by Ben Aaronovitch and Adjoa Andoh. Its publishing partners include Bloomsbury, Daphne Press, Gollancz, Hodderscape, Orbit, Penguin Michael Joseph, Simon & Schuster and Tor.

The prize hopes to find new writers in science fiction and fantasy and is passionate about helping develop these writers from ethnic minorities and help them learn more about the publishing industry.

To submit your work you must be a writer of color, based in the UK or Ireland, over 18, and unpublished by a traditional publisher. If you fit those requirements, then ready your submissions soon! Be sure to include a synopsis of your work, a cover letter, and a piece with up to 10,000 words. These should be submitted in three separate files as either a PDF, Word doc, or Google doc.

The shortlisted writers will be announced in spring 2025 and the winner will be announced in summer 2025 at the award ceremony in London. All shortlisted writers will get mentoring from one of Future Worlds publishing partners and will each receive £850. The runner-up will receive £2,500 and the winner will receive £4,500.
