Graywolf Press will be opening submissions for Poetry Translations from November 11 until November 15. While they accept translated works from all poets, they are especially eager to receive work from languages and countries of origin that are traditionally underrepresented in the literary landscape and works from BIPOC authors. Though act fast! Only the first 500 submissions will be accepted, and with no submission cost, it will fill up fast.

Graywolf Press is a nonprofit literary publisher of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and work in translation. It was founded in 1974, and fifty years later Graywolf is considered one of the nation’s leading nonprofit publishers. Their authors have received significant national and international awards, including the Nobel Prize for Literature, the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, the Man Booker Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Award, and the National Book Award. 

Submission Guidelines:

  • Only one project from each translator or translator team.
  • Submissions must be translations from LIVING poets
  •  The format requires a one-page cover letter that describes the vision for the translation, the cultural and historical context of the original work, and how this work would contribute to Graywolf’s poetry list.
  • Brief biographies of the poet and the translator(s), including previously published works.
  • Include a sample translation of 10-15 pages with the corresponding 10-15 pages of the poems in the original language. If you have a complete manuscript, please indicate so in your cover letter. 
  • You must have authorization for translation of the work into English and publication of the original text.

After the submission window closes there will be a few-month processing period, afterward the winner(s) will be given offers for publication through Graywolf Press!
