Mai Sennaar’s novel They Dream in Gold, featured on Brittle Paper earlier this year, has made it to the 2024 Center for Fiction Shortlist. Congrats!
The Center for Fiction is a US nonprofit literary organization dedicated to celebrating fiction and connecting authors. Located in New York, is has long since bene a staple in American literary culture since its launch in 1812. In addition to writing competitions they host seminars, workshops, reading groups and fellowships. The First Novel Prize honors the best debut novel of the year, and supports important emerging voices in fiction, the winner receives $15,000, and we are eager to see who will win this year.
Sennaar is not alone in the shortlist, she is surrounded by other skilled writers such as Rita Bullwinkel, Morgan Talty and Joseph Earl Thomas, among others. It surely will be exciting to see who takes home the grand prize this year, because none of the authors held back with their debut novels.
Mai Sennaar is a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and has created plays which were presented at Berkley, Harlem, and the Smithsonian among others. She has created short films and worked on musical book writing for the Broadway play Carry On! They Dream in Gold is her debut novel, and we look forward to seeing what comes next in her creative career.
