The British Academy is offering a funding opportunity for International Writing Workshops. These workshops will occur in “Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Philippines, South Africa, Turkey, Thailand, Vietnam and/or Least Developed Countries.”

The British Writing Workshops aim to equip researchers from developing countries with essential skills for publication in international journals, focusing on fields such as the humanities and social sciences.

The awards are set at a maximum of £30,000 over two years to encourage follow-up activities that are necessary to have a successful workshop. The writing workshops are “making a career intervention, instilling and aiming to change long-term academic culture, and engaging with the wider ecosystem researchers inhabit.

To be eligible to apply, applicants must be based at a UK university or an eligible research institute and have postdoctoral or above status, or have equivalent research experience. In addition to that, each applicant must have a co-applicant who’s based in one of the countries where the workshops will be occurring.

The proposals that researchers submit must be relevant to problems of developing countries with the direct intent of going to one of these countries to do the proposed research. The deadline to submit a proposal is January 29th, 2025. The earliest start date of the workshop is March 1st, 2025 after the recipient is named.

The British Academy hopes to “develop research partnerships, encourage skills development, provide advice on career development, and promote uptake of research emanating from developing countries” through this workshop opportunity.

If you’re interested in submitting a proposal, go to the British Academy‘s website here.

Good luck to all of the applicants!
