South African poet, professor, and Harvard Radcliffe Institute fellow, Gabeba Baderoon, is going to be a part of a Zoom event about her memoir she’s been working on throughout her fellowship, Autobiography of Sand: Relief Map of a Drifting Mind. This event will be on Wednesday, December 4th at 12 p.m. ET.

The Harvard Radcliffe Institute Fellowship Program allows scholars like Gabeba Baderoon the opportunity to spend a year working on their projects. Baderoon has taken this chance to work on this memoir, written in verse, that details her experience with a concussion and beyond. Drawing on her own experiences and that of others has allowed for her memoir to really come to life, and being written in verse allows her skill as a poet to shine.

She has published many works of poetry throughout he career, including The Dream in the Next Body (2005), The Museum of Ordinary Life (2005), Cinnamon (2009), and The History of Intimacy (2018). In 2005 she also won the Daimler Chrysler Award for South African Poetry.

Gabeba Baderoon’s vast experience in the world of literature and poetry made her a stand out selection for the Harvard Radcliffe Institute Fellowship. Only 3.3% of fellowship applicants were accepted to the program. What a great achievement for Gabeba Baderoon!

We’re excited to hear more about Autobiography of Sand: Relief Map of a Drifting Mind and Gabeba Baderoon’s experience being in the Harvard Radcliffe Institute Fellowship Program!
