Production kicks off in a few weeks in South Africa, with The Woman King director Gina Prince-Bythewood at the helm, bringing the vibrant and magical world of Orïsha to life.

After months of speculation, the casting list has been revealed, and it’s packed with talent. Leading the ensemble is Thuso Mbedu (The Woman King) as Zélie, joined by Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give) as Amari, Damson Idris (Snowfall) as Inan, and Tosin Cole (Supacell) as Tzain. Fans will also see heavy hitters like Viola Davis (The Woman King) as Mama Agba, Chiwetel Ejiofor (Half of a Yellow Sun) as King Saran, Cynthia Erivo (Wicked) as Admiral Kaea, and Idris Elba (Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw) as Lekan.

“This story celebrates African culture and the entire diaspora,” Prince-Bythewood shared. “I’m honored to bring it to life with this amazing ensemble cast.”

The Children of Blood and Bone movie is set to come out in IMAX on January 15, 2027. The story follows Zélie and her brother as they join forces with two royal siblings to reclaim the magic stolen from their people. It’s an epic tale of resistance, power, and culture.

Adding to the excitement is a powerhouse production team, including Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen, known for their work on the Twilight series, along with Karen Rosenfelt and Matt Jackson. Fans can also look forward to more casting announcements, with an open call for Nigerian actors already underway.
