British Nigerian writer Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé recently posted an exciting update on Instagram: she is in one of the final stages of editing a new book!

She shared three photos of her writing station, which show the book manuscript in a huge three-ring binder and a very cool skull-shaped pen holder. She makes sure the title is obscured, but eagle-eyed fans have noticed the words “Death came…” in bolded font at the top of the first page.

Àbíké-Íyímídé has been open about the publishing process, sharing her journey with other writers, and this post is no exception. The pictures come with a caption that explains the line editing stage of the writing process:

This stage of editing involves going through the most recent draft of the story with a highlighter and pen and scrutinising each and every line – fun times!

The young author skyrocketed to fame in 2021 with a 7-figure book deal for her debut novel, Ace of SpadesHer second book, Where Sleeping Girls Lie, came out just last year and partially continues the world-building of the earlier book. Àbíké-Íyímídé has proven her skill at crafting gripping YA narratives read around the world, and this one will surely be no different.

As Bookstagrammer Bri Busby commented about the forthcoming book, “idk what it’s about but i’ll take 14 of em” — we totally agree! Check out Àbíké-Íyímídé’s post below:
