Ankara Press is officially open for submissions. The London-based independent publisher publishes bold, commercial fiction and narrative non-fiction by Black writers from across Africa, the Caribbean, the UK and Europe, African America, and the wider Black world, and they are actively building their list with intention. In this window, they will read the first 100 completed manuscripts, giving each one serious editorial attention.
They are looking for romance, thriller, crime, women’s fiction, mystery, horror, and speculative fiction, fantasy and sci-fi included, as well as accessible, reader-focused non-fiction. But beyond genre, what they are really after is voice, emotion, tension, and a love for storytelling. Swoony romances, morally grey anti-heroes, intergenerational hauntings, folk horror, monster boyfriends, summer camp sagas, cults and corruption, sexy mage rivals, if it keeps readers glued to the page, Ankara wants to hear from you. Middle grade is also on the table, specifically stories with humour, heart, and Black kids being fully themselves.
This is not a transactional call. Ankara Press is clear that they only sign authors they can build something meaningful with; a long-term relationship grounded in shared values, mutual respect, and commitment to the process. They read every submission, and if your work excites them, they will be in touch about next steps.
