POETRY: Oron by Chibuzor Okoroafor

Oron

In this city of frost hued evenings
And tropical noon calling
After chilled awakening of dawn,

Supple flesh, cheery
Like the hustling
Of the koel bird,

Dreamcrashers nesting after
Dreamchasers,

Heart-sweet, eye
Lollygag
Like Ufofo.

*Oron is a county on the south-eastern coast of Nigeria and home to the Maritime Academy of Nigeria.

Lover and drinker of wine, Okoroafor Chibuzor is a final year cadet officer of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron.

I hold a doctorate in English from Duke University and recently joined the Marquette University English faculty as an Assistant Professor. I love teaching African fiction and contemporary British novels. Brittle Paper is the virtual space/station where I play and experiment with ideas on how to reinvent African fiction and literary culture.
