Literary Hub senior editor Emily Temple asked 20 book designers to name the best book covers of 2017, and out of the 64 covers listed, two are by African writers: Alain Mabanckou’s Black Moses and the US edition of Ayobami Adebayo’s Stay with Me. Both, remarkably, were chosen by the same designer: Allison Saltzman. Here is how she introduced them, alongside other covers that she chose.
I am so exhausted by this year’s political shit-show that I have nothing deep and eloquent to say on the state of cover design. These five covers are just so great looking that they make me smile, and they also tell you a lot about what kind of read lies within. That’s all I require.
