Brittlepaperians, listen up. We have some very delightful news. Uche Peter Umez, a contributor to Brittle Paper, is one of the recipients of the 2018 Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships, awarded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). The scholarship, valued at $50,000/year, is awarded for three years.

The prestigious Vanier scholarships are given to “doctoral students who have demonstrated strong leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies.”

As part of his success at the competition, Uche also received a President’s Doctoral Prize for Distinction by the University of Alberta, where he is a PhD student at the Department of English and Film Studies. His research is focused on masculinities in contemporary Nigerian fiction.

Congrats to Uche! We feel honored to be a part of his intellectual life and wish him lots of light and success in all his future endeavors.
