As the year draws to an end, we wish to reflect on the African books that have inspired readers.

Join our Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Ainehi Edoro and AKO Caine Prize Chair Ellah P. Wakatama for a celebration and discussion of Brittle Paper’s annual 50 Notable African Books of 2021 list.

The list, which was first launched in 2018, is a carefully curated collection of the most impactful African books in a given year. In this event, the Edoro and Wakatama will explore a variety of patterns and features specific to this year’s list like: the strong presence of books by African women, the explosion of African speculative fiction, and boundary pushing African publishers to name a few. The conversation will cover a wide range of genres, authors, and literary productions that have continued to move African literary culture forward by leaps and bounds.
