The Nigerian publishing house Masobe Books has launched a new magazine. The gorgeous publication will be released on a quarterly basis and is made available for free, as a gift when you buy a book from Masobe.
The magazine, according to a PR by Masobe, will serve as a guide for readers and lovers of Masobe Books. It comes with features, interviews, reviews, previews and lots more.
The magazine’s first volume features the Commonwealth Prize-winning Nigerian author Efua Traorè as its cover star. Efua is the author of Children of The Quicksands. The book is described by the publishers as a “richly imagined magical realist adventure” for young readers. It follows a young Nigerian girl who sets out on a precarious adventure to bring peace back to her divided family and save her hometown. The novel manuscript was awarded the Times/Chicken House Children’s Fiction Competition in 2019.
Efua Traorè grew up in Nigeria and has lived in France and Germany. She was awarded the 2018 Commonwealth Short Story Prize for Africa Region for her short story “True Happiness.” She currently lives in Munich with her husband and three daughters.
Also included in the quarterly are contributions from Masobe authors Bina Idonije and Chiemeka Garricks. There’s equally a section of the magazine highlighting the best books of the quarter.
The quarterly will be out in bookstores from the beginning of April, but you can see a snippet of Efua’s feature below.
