Ghanaian author and musician Blitz Bazawule recently revealed to his fans the secret playlist that inspired the writing of his debut novel The Scent of Burnt Flowers, published in June 2022. The novel also made it to Brittle Paper’s 100 Notable African Books of 2022 list this year!
Full of magic, romance, and political intrigue, Bazawule’s novel explores the lives of a young black couple, on the run for killing a white man in Alabama, and eventually end up in Kwame Nkrumah’s Ghana. When the couple encounter Ghana’s beloved highlife musician Kwesi Kwayson, the three of them begin a journey that leads to unveiling of secrets, new romances, and undeniable chaos.
