British-Nigerian author Bolu Babalola surprised her fans by attending the premiere of Disney’s The Little Mermaid in a stunning mermaid-esque outfit.

Babalola wore a gorgeous cream and blue maxi dress with her hair up in beachy curls. The dress was designed by the brand Torlowei, founded by Nigerian fashion designer Patience Torlowei.

Her fans loved the look so much that many of her Instagram commenters admitted that she looked the real Little Mermaid and should belong in the Disnep live-action film.

Babalola attended The Little Mermaid premiere as well as the British Book Awards in that outfit. She posted the following caption in her Instagram post:

Little Mermaid in the streets, British Book Awards in the sheets. That didn’t work. However! The power of the presence of a Black Disney Princess is so inspiring and Halle is a star and it is so galvanising to me. Even though I didn’t win an award this time, I have won in so many ways, the biggest of which is actually finishing my novel about a Black girl falling in love, and people actually falling in love with her. Always grateful. We move, we carve out space. Blessed.

Ridiculously beautiful dress, that garnered many compliments, by the wonderful, (Nigerian owned, and made!) @torloweiworld, thank you for always making me feel like a queen!! prose & pose!

Babalola is best known for her debut romance novel Honey & Spice(2022) and her short story collection Love in Colour (2020).
