The groundbreaking podcast, Adventures from the Bedrooms of African Women, just launched Season 2 on September 18. Produced by AQ Studios and hosted by Ghanaian writers Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah and Malaka Grant, the newest season includes spicy and unfiltered conversations about African women and sexuality.

The guests featured this season include the talented Nigerian-American comedian Yvonne Orji, the dynamic British-Nigerian writer and actress Kelechi Okafor, British-Nigerian sexpert and author Dami “Oloni” Olonisakin, and the Egyptian-American feminist powerhouse Mona Eltahawy.

Adventures from the Bedrooms of African Women is a podcast that delves into the intricate tapestry of African women’s lives, addressing the myriad of experiences, challenges, and victories that come with navigating the complex terrain of sex and sexuality. The podcast forges a secure and inclusive haven for these sometimes taboo conversations.

We are big fans of female empowerment and sex positivity here at Brittle Paper! In fact, Orji herself highly recommends this season of the podcast, calling it a “little bit kinky” in the video below:

Season 2 is all about debunking myths and norms, breaking down barriers, and empowering listeners. This season, Orji is shedding light on “why the wait is sexy”, Okafor talks about using pole dancing to teach women about body positivity, Oloni explains empowerment through the female orgasm, and Eltahawy talks all things menopause and why she affectionately calls it “The Second Spring.”

Selly Thiam, the founder of AQ Studios, remarked that the show’s mission is to spark candid dialogues about topics that often remain taboo in African communities:

Storytelling and open dialogue are powerful when it comes to subjects that have been marginalized for far too long. We’re thrilled to bring together a diverse mix of voices and experiences to create a more accepting and informed conversation about sexuality in the African context.

Season 2 of Adventures from the Bedrooms of African Women is available on all podcast platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Audible, and Amazon Music.

Check out some of the episodes below:

Episode 1: “Ladies, shall we have some fun?”

In this conversation, Oloni questions the lack of research into female sexuality, explains how to feel comfortable enough to demand better sex, brands Black-British culture the ‘kings of situationships,’ and shares how her partners feel about her work. Listen here.

Episode 2: “The ‘problem’ with Obioma Ugoala’s normal penis”

Irish-Nigerian author, singer and actor Obioma Ugoala has experienced fetishization and prejudice. He discusses the promise and pain of Black masculinity and sexuality in his book The Problem with my Normal Penis. The paperback version was released with the new title, The Making of a Man (and why we’re so afraid to talk about it) hoping the book and conversation will help his children “grow up in a world where they’re doing things differently.” Listen here.
