Men Don’t Cry follows a young French-Algerian man navigating complex family dynamics and cultural identity. Judges praised the novel for its humor, sensitivity, and fresh take on themes of masculinity and belonging.
Joanne Harris, the president of the judging panel, called it “a funny, wry coming-of-age story” with a unique perspective on family and identity. UK judge Patrice Lawrence said, “As the first in my family born in the UK, I adored this book.” Joseph Coelho highlighted the novel’s balance in addressing prejudice, tradition, and self-discovery.
