Call for Applications: The Audre Lorde Travel Grant for Summer 2025
The Spelman Archives is pleased to announce the Audre Lorde Travel Grant, offering two $2,500 travel awards to support PhD students conducting in-person research in the Audre Lorde Papers during Summer 2025. This opportunity aims to expand scholarship centering the lives and work of Black queer women while promoting public engagement with Lorde’s legacy.
The Spelman Archives, housed within the Women’s Resource and Research Center, preserves and provides access to historically significant documents and materials reflecting Spelman College’s history and its role in the African Diaspora. The Archives include collections from renowned Black feminists such as Audre Lorde, Toni Cade Bambara, and Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole, fostering critical research and engagement.
The Audre Lorde Papers are a centerpiece of the collection, showcasing the work and legacy of one of the most influential Black queer feminists of the 20th century. To learn more, visit the Spelman Archives page.
Each recipient of the Audre Lorde Travel Grant will receive a $2,500 award to support their research. The research period will take place between June and August 2025, with recipients able to plan a visit lasting 1 to 4 weeks.
The grant is open to currently enrolled PhD students in any discipline whose research would benefit from the Audre Lorde Papers. While applicants from all locations are welcome, special consideration will be given to those traveling more than 50 miles to Atlanta.
