Beloved Nigerian American author Nnedi Okorafor, author of the Binti trilogy and the recently released Death of the Author, has been announced as the editor for The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy 2025. This anthology, part of the renowned Best American series, showcases the year’s finest science fiction and fantasy short fiction. Okorafor, alongside series editor John Joseph Adams, will select twenty pieces that reflect the dynamic and evolving landscape of speculative fiction in America.

The Best American series, established in 1915, is celebrated for its annual compilations of the country’s top short fiction and nonfiction. Okorafor joins a line of celebrated authors–including R. F. Kuang (Yellowface), Veronica Roth (Divergent), N. K. Jemisin (The Fifth Season), and Carmen Maria Machado (The Dream House)–who have been asked to edit editions of this series.
