The British Science Fiction Association has announced the narrowed shortlist of nominees for the BSFA Awards, for work published in 2024 — and 3 African works have made the cut!

African-Australian computer scientist and author Eugen Bacon’s “An Afrofuturistic Dystopia and the Afro-irreal” in Afro-Centred Futurisms in Speculative Fiction has made the shortlist for Best Non-fiction (short).

Also on the shortlist is Nigerian author Wole Talabi whose Convergence Problems (Astra Publishing/DAW Press) is nominated for Best Collection and Unquiet on the Eastern Front (Subterranean Press) for Best Short Fiction.

The BSFA Awards have been presented annually since 1970. The awards are voted on by members of the British Science Fiction Association and by the members of the year’s Eastercon, the national science fiction convention, held since 1955. Voting is open to all BSFA members and attendees of the convention. Voting will close on April 18.

The winners of BFSA Awards will be announced at this year’s Eastercon, Reconnect, held in Belfast April 18-21, 2025.

Congratulations to Eugen Bacon and Wole Talabi!
