Sudanese author, screenwriter, and award-winning social advocate Yassmin Abdel-Magied took to Instagram to announce the acquisition of her new book At Sea by Canongate Books!

A former mechanical engineer, Abdel-Magied has published five books, including essay collection Talking About A Revolution (PRH, 2022) and two novels for younger readers, You Must Be Layla (Puffin, 2020) and the award-winning Listen, Layla (Puffin, 2021). She has also signed a two book deal with Hachette UK for teen series, The Hidden Legacy.

At Sea will be her first novel for adult readers! Abdel-Magied describes it as a “literary environmental thriller,” which seems timely for our current age of climate collapse.

She shared a heartfelt message of gratitude in her post: “The inimitable @ellah.wakatama is my editor, a gift and honour I cannot begin to describe. Y’all. Wait till I tell you the story of how I NEVER thought this book would see the light of day.”

Abdel-Magied anticipates that the book will come out in 2026 — we will stay tuned for more details!
