Efiko Magazine is now accepting submissions! Writers are invited to submit their poems, short stories, and essays for consideration until November 22, 2025.
Efiko Magazine is an online literary magazine with a focus on Africa as both place and perspective. They are seeking work of the highest quality from writers of African origin based anywhere in the world or anyone writing about Africa.
Submission Guidelines
What They’re Looking For:
- Poetry: 2 to 5 poems totalling 10 pages
- Short stories and essays: 1,200 to 5,000 words
Manuscript Format:
- Typeset in Times New Roman, 12 points, double-spaced, with numbered pages
- Save the attached document with your name and the genre of your work
Submission Process:
- Email your submission as a Word document attachment to [email protected]
- Indicate the genre of your submission in the subject line of your email (submissions without this information will not be read)
- Include a 5-line bio in the body of the email
- Submit only ONE piece per issue
Other Important Information:
- Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but notify them promptly if your work is accepted elsewhere
- They aim to respond within 50 days. If you don’t receive a response after this time, send an inquiry to [email protected]
- They only accept original, previously unpublished work (except in special cases). Work that already exists online will not be accepted
- Extensive revision from contributors after work has been accepted will not be allowed
Payment:
- For contributors with a Nigerian bank account: 30,000 naira for 2 or more poems and for prose over 2,500 published words. Accepted submissions below these numbers attract 20,000 naira
- For contributors with non-Nigerian bank accounts: choose and receive a novel or nonfiction book from selected African authors (if Amazon delivers to your country). The value of the book with processing is capped at $35
- Payment is processed upon publication
