Wasafiri, one of the world’s leading magazines of international contemporary writing, is now open for creative submissions in fiction and non-fiction from 1 April to 1 May 2026.

The magazine is looking for innovative creative writing that, in form, focus, or theme, aims to expand the boundaries of global literary culture. With decades of publishing behind them, Wasafiri has consistently platformed cross-genre and inter-regional conversations, and this open call is an invitation to be part of that tradition.

Writers can be based anywhere in the world, but submitted work must be in English either originally written in, or translated into, English. Submitted work should be between 3,000 and 5,000 words, and writers are encouraged to ensure their work is thematically, structurally, conceptually, and grammatically polished before submitting. Above all, Wasafiri is looking for writing that is thoughtful and nuanced, formally outstanding, and profoundly absorbing.

Submission is free, and the magazine aims to respond to all writers within six months. Writers whose work is accepted will be paid for their contribution.

Visit the Submit page on Wasafiri’s website for full details, including word count, format, and fees.

Deadline: Midnight BST, Friday, 1 May 2026.
