Molara Wood posted two videos of Christopher Obiageli Okigbo reading her father’s poems. The videos capture a rare moment of literary magic. Obiageli Okigbo’s father is, of course, Christopher Okigbo, the celebrated Nigerian poet who died in 1967 while fighting as a Biafra soldier. He wrote modernist poetry and explored Igbo and Yoruba cosmology in his writings.
It is moving to see his daughter read his work. The reading took place in Brussels at the 2020 Asmara Addis Literary Festival curated by Sulaiman Addonia. [click here if you missed it.]
Obiageli Okigbo is a visual artist based in Brussels.
