The collection, currently titled Content Warning: Everything, is Emezi’s debut work of poetry. Emezi has previously published the novels Freshwater (2018), Pet (2019) and The Death of Vivek Oji (2020).
The news of the forthcoming publication might come as a surprise to some who are strictly regard Emezi as a prose writer. But according to Emezi, they started out writing poetry before venturing into fiction and studied poetry at Cave Canem, an American artistic organization for black poets, in 2012.
Fun fact: I was writing poetry long before I started writing fiction, and studied at @CaveCanemPoets back in 2012, shoutout to my instructors Ama Codjoe & Evie Shockley! 🙏🏾💞 It’s so cool to come full circle around to publishing this collection 🥰 #ContentWarningEverything
