Twenty writers have been shortlisted for the Huza Press/Goethe Institut Writing Residency.

The residency, in its inaugural year, is open to writers seeking to complete or make significant progress on a novel manuscript. The 2021 edition is themed “Writing Gender.”

The twenty shortlisted writers, selected from nearly a hundred submissions, are split in two categories- ten each for African and German-speaking writers. One writer will be selected from each category and hosted in Kigali to work on a novel manuscript in September.

Huza Press is one of Rwanda’s leading literary institutions. This initiative will provide African writers the space and support to develop their work.
