Last year, we brought you updates on the screen adaptation of short story “It Has to Do With Emilia” by the NLNG-shortlisted Nigerian author Obinna Udenwe. [Read here if you missed it.] The trailer is finally out, and it looks great.

“It Has to Do With Emilia”, published in 2017 on AFREADA, chronicles the forbidden, tentative love affair that develops between a struggling job-seeking young man named Temitayo and an older evangelist named Emilia, who shows up on his door one day to share the gospel. The short story received favorable reviews upon publication.

The short film, which also takes the same title, is shot in Yeoville, Johannesburg, and is produced by the award-winning Namibian filmmaker Bridget Pickering under her film company BUMP films and directed by her mother Lunar Pickering. The movie stars the South African actors Zenzelisphesihle Sparky Xulu and Didintle Khunou as Temitayo and Emilia respectively.

The film is set to screen soon at select upcoming festivals across the continent. In the meantime, enjoy the newly-released gorgeous trailer below:
