Over the last few years Isele Magazine has earned its place in the African literary space. They are taking things to the next level by launching a print version of writing published in the magazine. The anthology of essays, poems, and short stories is titled The Best of Isele Anthology and will be published by Iskanchi Press in November 2022 (US).

The Best of Isele Anthology will contain works by Rilla Askew, Romeo Oriogun, Nora Nneka, Gabriela Denise Frank, Sylvia K. Ilahuka, Innocent Chizaram Ilo, Muyera Sokoo, Itiola Jones, and others to name a few. The authors longlisted from the inaugural Isele Prizes will also be published in the collection. Isele Magazine‘s editor in chief Ukamaka Olisakwe and Iskanchi Press both took to Twitter to celebrate the exciting announcement. Olisakwe shared her excitement to finally break the news about this project while Iskanchi Press offered a short description of what we can expect from the collection.

Founded in 2020, Isele Magazine has made strides in their mission to “foster a vibrant community” of writers and readers that see the arts and literature as “an integral part of the daily conversations that uplift and/or shape our thinking.” Aside from the forthcoming anthology, bi-monthly web magazine, quarterly series, and seasonal blog, the platform also awarded the inaugural Isele Prizes in fiction, poetry, and non-fiction this year.

We are excited for this next venture for Isele Magazine and look forward to learning more about the collection. The details on the cover, more authors, and pre-order information are all forthcoming so be sure to check back for updates!
