For the second time, we are partnering with South African newspaper Mail and Guardian on our Notable Books of the Year list. 50 of our 100 Notable books of 2022 was featured on the cover of the Mail & Guardian for the December 15-21 issue. The cover issue highlights Brittle Paper’s 100 Notable African Books of 2022 List.

Mail & Guardian is a South African weekly newspaper and website, published by M&G Media in Johannesburg, South Africa. It focuses on political analysis, investigative reporting, Southern African news, local arts, music and popular culture.

In the cover issue, Mail & Guardian celebrates Brittle Paper’s 100 Notable African Books of 2022 list for capturing the rich and expansive nature of African literary culture. The list is in its fourth year and helps readers stay up-to-date on new and noteworthy African books. 50 of the 100 books have been selected from the list and displayed on Mail & Guardian.

The feature is written by Brittle Paper’s very own Editor-in-Chief Ainehi Edoro. She remarks, “In spite of the enduring challenges of African book publishing, 2022 has been a luminous year of brilliant debut authors, exciting genres and engaging ideas.”

Some of the writers featured on Brittle Paper’s list include Tsitsi Dangaremgba, Nnedi Okorafor, Noor Naga, and Eloghosa Osunde. The list reflects the diversity of African writing in English as 23 countries are represented on this year’s list, including first-timers Djibouti and Burkina Faso.

Congrats to Brittle Paper on being featured on the cover of Mail & Guardian’s Friday magazine!
