Last year, we reported that Chimamanda Adichie was going to be a children’s book author. We have some new updates on the highly anticipated forthcoming book. Adichie recently shared the cover of the book on her social channels, describing the book as “a celebration of the joy in ordinary family life.”

Titled Mama’s Sleeping Scarf, the book tells the story of Chino and the “miracles of an ordinary family day in Lagos.” Adichie shared in the accompanying video that the book, “also happens to be based in a day in the life of my daughter.

Adichie is publishing the book the pseudonym Nwa Grace, which honors her mother. The illustrator is Congolese and Angolan London based artist Joelle Avelino, who Adichie’s describes as “immensely talented.”

Mama’s Sleeping Scar, out on September 5, is the first publication in a three-book deal with Harper Collins Children’s Books in the UK. The pre-order link is live. Go here to save a copy.

So delighted to announce that I’ve written my first children’s book, Mama’s Sleeping Scarf.
It is a celebration of the joy in ordinary family life. The illustrations by the immensely taletented @joelle_avelino are so beautiful, so apt. It will be published by @harpercollinsch (UK) and @aaknopf (US) on 5th September.
