British-Nigerian author Bolu Babalola is on the cover of the May 2023 issue of The Floor Mag. We are absolutely loving her sweet yet bold style that she is sporting and the way she uplifts Black women in the interview.

Babalola is a talented romance writer and calls herself a “romcomoisseur”. She has published a short story collection Love in Colour (2020) and her debut novel Honey & Spice (2022), along with working as a journalist. Born in London to Nigerian parents, Babalola made it to the Forbes 30 under 30 List in 2021 and serves as the global ambassador for the World Literacy Foundation.

The Floor Mag feature celebrates Babalola as a “cornerstone in the pop cultural zeitgeist with love, romance and tenderness at the core of her offering.” The interview focuses on Babalola’s novel Honey & Spice along with her writing career. Babalola says she is currently working on her third book and enjoys carving out space for Black women’s stories:

I am always ambitious because I always feel like I could do better. I’m always trying to top the last thing I did. I still have so many stories to tell and so many things to do and I’m so excited to do that. And I really really love my community and my audience and for me that’s women and Black women, lovers of love, I love us so much and I really try to create stories that carve out space for us, that carve out hope and joy for us.

Babalola has always been a fashionista throughout her career, but this cover feature brings out Babalola’s playful persona and inner beauty even more. We are loving the simple white and green look she has worn for the cover feature, as well as the bright pink ensemble that speaks to her expertise in the romance genre.
