Black British writer Warona Jolomba has a debut novel forthcoming that explores the struggles of an aspiring Black playwright. Titled The Grand Scheme of Things, the novel will be published by Atria Books.

The Grand Scheme of Things is a unique story about a Black playwright who struggles to find representation. She ultimately devises a plan to use her white friend’s name (with permission) to promote future plays. When her play reaches world recognition, she then exposes the theater world for their racial biases.

Jolomba’s debut explores themes of class, redemption, perception, and how success shapes human beings. It sounds like a great addition to the Black British literary landscape and we hope that it shines a light on the issues of the publishing industry as well.

Warona Jolomba originally became famous as an author on Wattpad at the age of 16. Since then, she has won two Watty Awards and was a finalist in Penguin’s WriteNow editorial scheme. Her works include Rest Easy, which has garnered over 350,000 reads on Wattpad. She’s currently working on her PhD in Creative Writing at the Brunel University London.

Congrats to Jolomba on her upcoming book!
